School Library Project We are two teachers who are interested in a development project in the context of the school library. We are both school librarians and furthermore teach media, where we offer courses to all classes in the school. Besides we are both class teachers of form 8 (14 year old students) and form 5 (11 year oldstudent). We would like to strike a blow at the international dimension and imagine that we would be able to manage smaller rather short collaborative projects. Projects where you both learn some ICT skills and at the same time use it in the collaboration with others. The starting point is the school library, but it need not necessarily be the case for the partners. Our aim is really to develop the international work at our school and this make the international and the global cooperation be part of the development profile of the school. We would like to make a Comenius-project. English 6 –16 years old Jane Hansen and Louise Elmquist Solbakkeskolen No specific 2003/2004 20.....260

What makes us think more European? Although we all learn constantly about Europe by for instance watching the news, travelling etc., many students still have a very vague idea about other European countries, the people and life and find it difficult to identify with the “European idea”. In our project we want to improve identification with our own city/town – region – country – neighbouring countries – Europe - and want to co-operate with schools from Spain, Scandinavia, Austria/Switzerland, the Netherlands, England and the Baltic states. At our vocational school economics, business studies, politics and languages (English, French, German and Spanish) are important subjects in the curriculum. For a start we would like to compare environmental education and awareness in our countries and find out how environmental protection policies and consumer protection are put into practice into various EU countries. Since we want to do a Comenius 1 school developing project we would like to involve up to six different classes and about six teachers. The students in each class will have a chance to make their own suggestions and to exchange their ideas about European issues which help them to improve “feeling European.” We think that parts of the project can be done with only two partners, other parts might involve more schools. The whole project should consist of various elements so that various groups of students and different language teachers and the German teachers and Economics teachers have a chance to participate. We want to avoid too much red tape and stay flexible. Our aim is to improve the student’s and teachers’ identification with Europe.
